So Valuable Yet So Inexpensive
When I talk to my kids about lessons
learned, I always mention that lessons they learn at this point in
life are always pretty cheap. For example, learning a lesson now
about personal responsibility, when they're eight and 10, is going to
be a lot less expensive than a lesson learned about personal
responsibility, at age 30. A lesson learned now for them may cost
them the loss of the privilege, or a toy or worst-case scenario even
a grounding.
A lesson learned at age 30, could cost
them a lot more.
The point is that education is a very
valuable commodity and in the case of One Senior Source, it's free.
We freely give of the information that it has taken us many years and
many hours of intense work to accumulate. We do that because we know
that it's needed. So we do it every day online and Saturdays and
Sundays on the radio.
Listen Saturday at 10:05 AM or Sunday at 10:05
AM on 860 a.m. Utah's Big Talker. If you're out of the area, you can
listen online. And we encourage you to do that.
Because there's nothing so expensive as
turning down a free education.

Two Things Everyone Should Know about
Leaving a Legacy
When we recorded the radio show today, we
talked with Karen Lindsay, a life coach. And Karen for the last two
times we've spoken with her has been talking about the family legacy
that we leave after we've gone on. I found it fascinating to hear her
talk about some of the experiences she had based on what was left for
her by her mother and grandmother.
I was also a little sad thinking about
the fact that my mom didn't really leave intentionally anything for
us. It wasn't that there were things that mom kept and treasured,
because it's appears mom kept pretty much everything, but what Karen
talked about was that to leave a legacy, a true legacy, it's
important that the memories associated with the items are also
shared.
Because mom passed suddenly neither she nor we got a chance to get those memories. I know there were a lot of things mom That she wanted us to have, each of us specifically to have certain items. But because of the nature of a how all this happened, none of us got that opportunity.
Because mom passed suddenly neither she nor we got a chance to get those memories. I know there were a lot of things mom That she wanted us to have, each of us specifically to have certain items. But because of the nature of a how all this happened, none of us got that opportunity.
I guess the point of this is that we
need to think about those things and share them as we go along
because we just never know. My mom is the second person close to me
who died without being able to tell me some things I know they both
wanted to tell me. I'm not someone who pines over those kind of
things, because I prefer to think of the good things that did happen,
but it would have been nice for mom's sake and ours to get the
memories that went along with the stuff. Because without the
memories, it's just stuff.
The other point I want to get across is
that is today's show is a really good show. I encourage everyone to
listen. You can find it, no matter where you are in the country, by
going two 860 a.m. Utah's Big Talker on the web and listening online
through an apple or through 860s website.
I know you'll find today show to be
worth the effort it takes to listen.

Two Critical Steps That Will Assure You (Or Your Parents) Of a Way to Connect to a Better Life
Two Critical Steps That Will Assure You
(Or Your Parents)
Of a Way to Connect to a Better Life
Every day I hear from people whose life
hasn't turned out quite like they hoped. For years, they'd worked
their their jobs and raise their families - looking forward to the
time when retirement would be a time for them to enjoy life. Then
something happened and it hasn't turned out quite like they pictured.
If you are one of those people or maybe
it sure parents, then we have solutions for you. Never knowing for
sure what to look for or what questions to and ask or who to trust
can all be very confusing.
That's where we come in.
We have been doing the research and
walking the walk for over a year now. We visited with literally
hundreds of senior resource suppliers and senior based businesses. We
have looked at their record of services and their reputations in the
communities. We have spoken with business owners and managers. We
have separated the good from the bad, and the reputable from the
disreputable.
We've done that so you don't have to.
On top of that we are now offering memberships that will give you
weekly and monthly updates on the latest and greatest of senior
services and resources.
The the first critical step is to come to grips with the fact that you could use some help.
The second critical step is to call us today to get your membership
set up. Call me at 844-981-0099, get your membership card shipped out
to you immediately. Your membership is free and there's no
obligation. We simply want to be able to give you the best as we get

The One Thing You Need to Know to Connect to a Better Life
The One Thing You Need to Know
to
Connect to a Better Life
Our motto and one senior source is
connecting you to a better life. And how we do that is very simple.
We put you, either the senior or the family of the senior, in touch
with resources and services that can improve the quality of life for
seniors. We been doing it for several months now, fact were running
right up on our first year anniversary.
My goal when I started the show was
that every time a radio or TV show aired that we would help at least
one person. So far we are not just meeting - but surpassing that
goal, every single week. We want to thank those of you who call them
or e-mailed for your participation in our show. Your questions have
been invaluable to our partners, as well as to other seniors and
their families.
We have been growing at such a fast
pace that we have decided it's time to take our services to a new
level. Beginning on this week's radio show we will be announcing our
new membership card. This card will entitle you to regular updates
and new information on a weekly or monthly basis. Also included in

The One Thing
The number one concern of seniors is
outliving their money. According to research the second biggest
concern is living there last few years in the nursing home that their
grandmother or their mother died in. And I need to be very clear
here, the nursing home that grandma or mom died in has long since
gone away. Care centers and assisted living have replaced those old
nursing homes. Competition has made them all very nice accommodations
staffed by wonderful people who care.
That being said, most people would
prefer to stay in their home as long as possible. It's called aging
in place. And the number of options and resources and services that
are available to help seniors age in place grows incrementally every
day. The one thing that would save you from having to leave your home
is communication.
It is critical that you as a caregiver
or you as a senior communicate fully how you're feeling, and what
your concerns are. My mom did not communicate that. And we didn't
know how to listen or what to listen for. As such, the signs that we
now see in retrospect didn't mean anything to us. As a caregiver or
family member, it is critical for you to understand how things are
changing for you. Space are you more tired? Do you feel yourself
getting upset more easily? Do you find yourself being overwhelmed?
These are all critical things that you communicate to other family
members as well as the person you're taking care of.
If you're the person being taken care
of. You need to watch for those things in your caregiver, and
communicate to others what you're seeing. We also urge you to listen
to our radio show one 860 a.m. Utah's big talker. Or to watch our TV
show coming in November. Or call me at 844-981-0099. Or e-mail me at

The Big Mistake Seniors and Their Families Make
The Big Mistake Seniors and Their
Families Make
This isn't meant as a criticism of
anyone. It's simply pointing out a critical error that many people
make. I know because my family all made this very same mistake. The
mistake is this not recognizing caregiver burnout.
For four years. My mother took care my
dad on a daily basis. She was his primary and only caregiver. Toward
the end there were some signs that we all missed. Mom was not
herself. She was more edgy and touchy. She had begun to complain
about her health and things that she normally wouldn't complain
about. She had begun to get more forgetful. She said she wasn't
sleeping well. Just generally mom was not mom.
As it turned out mom became a
statistic. She was one of the 20% of senior caregivers who die before
the person they were taking care of. It was shocking and sad. We were
all extremely surprised, caught off guard because we had no idea that
she had gotten that bad.
We didn't know what to look for, we
didn't know what questions to ask and I only found out after the fact
that we weren't very different from millions of other families in the
United States. The common denominator for all of us is lack of
education. That's where One Senior Source comes in. For the last
eight months, we have been broadcasting on radio and television with
the goal of educating seniors and their families. While we don't know
everything, we do have a very good network of people we can call and
get the absolute right answers.
We suggest you call us and tell us your
story. Or listen to our radio show Saturdays Sundays at 10 AM, on 860
a.m. Utah's Big Talker. Or call us at 844-981-0099. E-mail me
Dennis@oneseniorsource.com.
Or visit the website www.oneseniorsource.com.
Until then, keep an eye on your senior caregivers. Don't let happen
to you, what happened to us.

Progress not perfection. I can't really pretend to know everything there is about senior services and resources. In fact, I know very little. But the things I do know is that there are answers out there. If I just take the time to look.
Late last week I got a message from one of my providers. This message came to me saying that one of his clients needed help with something that he couldn't help with. So he pass the word along to me. It was about a senior who really couldn't get around very well. This gentleman has a disability and can't drive. But he still needs to be able to get to the grocery store to get some of these other things that he would like to do. He wanted to be somewhat independent but does need help getting from point A to point B. this was actually something that I had never run across before. I know that many home care agencies do provide transportation, but not all.
So I started doing some research. I called a few people, then I called a few more people. Then I got on the Internet and it's more research and then I called a few more people. It took a while but I was able to come up with some answers for the man. I found that there were three different entities that he could go to for help in getting around. One was a government agency. The other two were private entities. One of those was free of charge. The other charge a small fee. I also talked to some of my other providers. One of them suggested that he could even talk to a relative or family member may be some teenager or college student that needed a little extra cash and had a car and wouldn't mind helping him out.
The upshot was is that he used a couple of those resources and called me back and told me that those worked out great.
My point in all of this is simply that someone had a need didn't know how exactly to express it but told me his story I was able to find resources for him. I without a doubt can do the same for you. But in order to do that I need to hear from you. Whether it's for you or for a family member, I just need to hear. So call me at 844-981-0099. E-mail me at Dennis@oneseniorsource.com. Or go to the website. Www.oneseniorsource.com. Either way I look forward to hearing from you.

Back in the day when my parents grew up their parents were generally all taken care of by pensions. Prior that families lived together sometimes three and four generations in the same house, with the younger taking care of the older. For the last 30 or so years the lives of seniors has evolved.
We and our parents are in the process of becoming the pioneers of the 401(k) and IRA generation. This comes with its own set of challenges. Care, for example, has had to change greatly, with family members having to commend to their parents homes to help take care of them. This is given rise to the free market building more on more home care and home healthcare agencies by the day.
It has also spawned a new deep-seated fear, the fear of outliving your money. For many seniors, this is a very real fear and in a lot of cases a very real outcome. It has also given rise to other industries, which is financial planning, senior law as well as things like reverse mortgages. These are all tools of seniors and their families can use to help plan for the fact that seniors are living longer and longer.
We encourage all families and all seniors to look into some of the services now rather than later. It really is never truer early to begin planning for your senior years. There are many very good financial planners, senior law offices and reverse mortgage specialists out there. At one senior source. We encourage you to look into these services. This week's radio show has three but we have found to be very good in these areas has a law, Redstone advisors, and of course our good friend Craig Clayson from security national mortgage Corporation.
Listen to our show this week on 860 a.m. Utah's big talker and hear what these gentlemen have say. Or you can contact us at 1-844-981-0099, or e-mail me Dennis@oneseniorsource.com. Or, as always, check out the website www.oneseniorsource.com

This past week I got an e-mail from a
listener. She thanked us for putting radio show on the air and had a
couple of questions for me. First of all I want to thank anyone who
calls or e-mails or somehow contacts us with questions or concerns or
even just to tell us the story. You are the reason we produce the
show as well as the TV show is helping people like you. Thank you.
The main theme of her e-mail was simply
this; she was in her 60s and her mother was in her 90s. She has been
taking care of her mother for several years and is starting to have
concerns about her own health. This e-mail struck home for me because
this was the whole reason for producing the show, when my mother died
from caregiver burnout. She had been taking care of my dad for the
previous four years and we were completely unaware of what caregiver
burnout even was if it even existed, or what signs to look for. I
spent the next several months researching and found that many people
are in this position and are just completely unaware of it.
What I was able to do for this woman
was director to companies that can help her. This included some home
modification. Some home care some home health care, even a couple of
mobile providers, including opticians, dental and podiatry. She was
happy, first of all that someone listened, and secondly, that
not only did we listen but we had some solutions for her and her
particular situation. I was also able to suggest some financial
solutions because neither she or her mother can work and they are
both on a fixed income.
There are solutions out there!
These solutions work and have worked
and will continue to work. We encourage anyone to just call us and
let us know what's going on for your. Tell us your story. There are
many solutions that we are aware of where we can help you. If we
don't have a solution, we can find one.
So call us 844-981-0099. Or e-mail me.
Dennis@oneseniorsource.com.
You can also log onto our website www.oneseniorsource.com.
We look forward to hearing from you. Oh and also if you are a
provider for seniors contact us will be happy to go out and represent
you as well.
The only thing constant in life is
change. Even though that is an oxymoron it is true. Sometimes changes
for the good sometime changes for the not so good. Human beings
resist change. Very few people like change, but it always seems to
work just exactly the way it should.
So to ghost the new healthcare world. Things are rapidly evolving, these days. The things that we used to count on we can't count on so much anymore. The face of family healthcare has changed drastically over last two years. Health insurance, the health insurance market has changed drastically. So to have individual health insurance policies and families have had to learn to adapt.
The senior market. In the meantime has also changed. When the new healthcare law was signed in to affect it basically cut out half $1 trillion in healthcare benefits for people on Medicare. This also happened at a time when the numbers are growing for people entering Medicare at hereto for unknown numbers. Obviously things that had to change.
One thing that has seemed to change for the better is the emphasis on aging in place. Home healthcare agencies, as well as home care agencies have sprung up at a phenomenal rate. Other services now are also being delivered to seniors in the comfort of their home. Dental care, podiatry services, optometry services, as well as the return of the house call doctor. These things are all good news for seniors, their families and their caregivers.
If there is any bad news in the scenario. It's simply that most seniors, their families and their caregivers are completely unaware of the fact that the services are available. That's where we come in. Over a year ago. Now one senior source realized that there was a huge information gap between what seniors know and what they should know. Out of that information gap has sprung a radio show a television show, a blog, a website social media, and many more services yet to come. If you are the family member or caregiver or the senior themselves and are looking for help, contact us. We are not aware of everything for certain, but what we have learned could be of immense help to you.
Likewise if you are a senior services company contact us. Let us be a delivery method to allow you to get your information into the hands of more people. Call us at 844-981-0099. Or e-mail us at Dennis@oneseniorsource.com. Or log onto our website www.oneseniorsource.com
The free market is a wonderful thing. It allows services to profit and prosper if they deliver a service that people find of value. It also allows for operators who are serving their customers properly and honestly and with integrity to prosper within that system.
In the free market system companies who market services to seniors are finding themselves more and more in demand. There are many reasons for this but the largest primarily is that there are more and more seniors with the baby boomers, moving through the senior services system. In conjunction with this more and more senior services companies are finding that in order to service customers they have to sell customers. And in order to sell those customers. They must service those customers prior to the sale.
The most effective and easiest way to service these seniors is by delivering them education. Education-based marketing is the single most effective way to deliver this education to the seniors. At one senior source. We are in the business of education. Our education-based marketing system allows for senior services businesses to educate and thereby service their clients. This is the most effective way to sell. And the most effective way to service your clients is to sell them.
Senior services companies that are interested in selling services to seniors should consider education-based marketing, and companies that are interested in education-based marketing should consider contacting one senior source. Best way to reach us is 844-981-0099 or e-mail us at Dennis@oneseniorsource.com. To find out more about one senior source visit our website at oneseniorsource.com.

We who are in the business of serving
the senior market, are faced with a somewhat daunting task. The
senior market is different than any other market. Because in many
cases it is not just the senior making the decision, but family as
well.
The decisions that many families face as parents age can be very difficult. these decisions range from how long should our parents stay in their home, should they stay in their home, what is best for them as well as the rest of the family and even in many times end-of-life decisions.
Burchreek Homecare and Hospice in Ogden has been in business since 2006. The company is truly a business with a heart. They not only serve their customers well and affordably, for families who have seniors that need extra care that they can't always accommodate they offer free respite care.
Respite care is something that gives caregivers a break. For example, if a spouse or a family member just needs a couple hours to go to their own doctors appointment or take care of the child or just to get away, that is respite care. Since 2010 Burchcreek has been offering free respite care to citizens in Davis, Weber and Morgan counties. This service is offered through the local senior centers and is free of charge, to any one who has a need.
While many times we give away free media time on television and radio simply because it serves our listeners and viewers better, we also appreciate those who give back or even pay it forward. We absolutely believe in Burchcreek Homecare and Hospice. They are truly a company with a mission to serve no matter what the cost. We salute them.

Why We Do What We Do
By Dennis Rowley
Most of us have heard the old saying that no one does anything for any length of time without getting a payoff. Whether, it's eating what we like, or working where we work, or how we spend our leisure time, we all do things that give us a payoff. I personally have worked many places in my lifetime. Some of them I liked and, a lot, and that was an additional little payoff for me, to work at a place that gave me a lift.
Other places I worked, the only payoff I got was a paycheck. (We've all been there I'm sure.)
The payoff Michele and I get from One Senior Source is your phone calls. When we hear from one of you out there, we get a huge payoff. It tells us we are truly making a difference. After a lifetime of doing the work I have done, making a difference is HUGE for me.
Whether is helping a business tell its story, or helping a family member / caregiver / senior find source that helps them get answers, we get up every day with the objective of seeking to make a difference.
Tell us why you need.
Tell us your story.
Tell us about someone who helped you.
Ask us a question.
Ask us for a referral.
But please call.
Your calls are why we do what we do.
